The Application Engineer is responsible for finding solutions to satisfy customers’ needs and helping to support the customer, ensuring that the range of Syntech products function according to customer specifications.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Troubleshoot issues and provide advanced engineer-level technical support to internal and external customers.
  • Provide advanced MS SQL database support, including troubleshooting database connection issues, data analysis, data correction, and implementation of MS SQL add-ons such as SSRS and SSIS.
  • Provide IT support such as setting up virtual machines and web applications, and understanding and troubleshooting system security.
  • Support the Sales Department; conduct site surveys and recommend product solutions.
  • Conduct product research, including third party products, as part of Syntech’s overall product offerings.
  • Install, monitor and support new and updated features and products during the product Beta Test cycle.
  • Assist with writing and reviewing technical and end-user documentation.
  • Assist with testing and support efforts, as needed.
  • Travel, as required, for onsite customer assistance, troubleshooting, and training.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS in Computer Science, MIS, or other related field; will consider relevant years’ experience in lieu of degree.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience providing technical support.
  • Knowledge of, and ability to provide technical support, in the following areas:
    • Windows and Linux based operating systems.
    • Relational database design, administration, and security for Microsoft SQL.
    • Telecommunication technologies including Ethernet, POTS, cell modems, satellite modems, etc.
    • Implementing systems that have a mixture of software, firmware, and hardware.
    • Network setup and security.
    • Software development lifecycle and basic coding skills.
    • Automotive applications and OBD systems, preferred.
    • Fuels Accounting Systems and Fleet Maintenance, preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to work independently completing workload assignments, meeting milestones and deadlines.
  • Protects organization’s value by keeping information confidential.

TRAVEL AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Travel is essential; up to 20% of time traveling to onsite locations (which may include weekends); length of stay on-site is typically 3-5 days.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and have a good driving record with no major violations.
  • The work environment varies from site to site and can include exposure to:
    • Heavy machinery
    • Hazardous materials
    • Loud noises
    • Petroleum products, oil, grease, grime, mud, etc.
    • Outside elements (wind, rain, heat, cold, etc.
